Softer than Gion –  March 28, 2025

  • Walk:  Takehara
  • Visit: Historic district & Matsusaka’s family residence
  • Weather:  45-60°/ more clouds than sun 10-15 mph 

Namiyo suggested visiting Takehara as it reminded her of a softer version of Gion District in old Kyoto. I find it enchanting. It’s easy to admire the beauty without the hype, the crowds, or the souvenir shops of Kyoto.

Kimono. Namiyo and Saburo’s house burned down about 8 years ago. All her kimonos were lost in the fire.
Toilet. Operate like an out house single-seater.
