Decided to check out Mihara the next largest city. It is large enough to have Shinkansen the high speed rail service. Glad to return on local slow train to quant Takehara.
Myosho-ji Temple gates. Myosho-ji Temple. Care to venture a guess the age of this cherry tree?Mihara’s historic castle ruin.
YouTube described the previous mountain hike. Looking at GAIA’s map (Map of Japan is far less detailed than GAIA’s Europe maps.) the trail appeared to continue to a second summit. I met a solo Japanese woman hiker. Using hand signals and referring to the map, I motioned if I could join her to the second summit. Safe climb and again flawlessly executed.
On the way to the summit. Summit with only one family having a picnic. Seto Island Sea. My hiking friend in the yellow jacket. I love to ring the Temple bells. The tone is phenomenal.
Three excellent musicians played traditional Japanese music with the American spiritual Amazing Grace and the classic Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon and Garfunkel added to the mix.
Amazing Grace. Traditional Japanese music. Japanese instrument. Harry, do you need more musicians?
A woman in a kimono approached overloaded with a magnum bottle of sake, a pitcher of tea, a stepping stool, and a basket. I motioned to help and was immediately accepted. The items happened to be in preparations for a concert at Shoren-ji Temple. She graciously invited me to be her guest for the concert.
She describes herself as being camera shy. Set Up. Musician. Musician.
When I see a kimono, I impulsively take a picture trying not to be obvious. These preforming dancers are part of today’s concert. They caught me red handed.
Caught red handed. Hands with fans.Kimono. Musician.
Visit: Historic district & Matsusaka’s family residence
Weather: 45-60°/ more clouds than sun 10-15 mph
Namiyo suggested visiting Takehara as it reminded her of a softer version of Gion District in old Kyoto. I find it enchanting. It’s easy to admire the beauty without the hype, the crowds, or the souvenir shops of Kyoto.
Softer version of Gion District.Open door.Kimono. Namiyo and Saburo’s house burned down about 8 years ago. All her kimonos were lost in the fire. Toilet. Operate like an out house single-seater.
