Mangia! Mangia! ~ October 6, 2015

  • October 6, 2015
  • Day 29
  • Firenze
  • 70-78 degrees

Good things are worth repeating as I returned to last night’s restaurant gem. Like Batman and Robin, Luca and Enrico sang “Go Johnny Go,” as they worked in tandem filling orders. As my choice, I ordered their favorite sandwich. This started an avalanche of the chief’s favorites sandwichs being ordered. Mangia! Mangia!

Nose Knows ~ October 5, 2015

  • October 5, 2015
  • Day 28
  • Firenze…yep, Florence
  • 103 miles…by train 😀
  • 60-75 degrees

Follow your nose for good food. Don’t rely on the popularity of a restaurant. Good food has aroma that excites the taste buds. Passing a woman on the street, I could smell her sandwich.  This became a trail of good smells that lead me to All’Anyico Vinaio. The shop had a line of people, all waiting to order the hugest and tastiest sandwiches, blocking the street. I could only manage eating half my $6 incredible sandwich.  Glass of wine, $3.50.

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th two blocks from Ufizzi Gallery on Via de’Neri, Firenze

At Home ~ October 1, 2015

  • October 1, 2015
  • Day 24
  • Caminno Day 13
  • Between Gubbio and Valfabbrica / Agri Valdichiascio
  • 10 1/2 miles
  • Total ascent 351 feet and descent 194 feet
  • 3 hours
  • 45-55 degrees constant drizzle

A few hours of walking in the drizzle were exchanged with time spent with an Italian family.  Though my room was luxurious, I chose to spend the time with the family in their home relaxing by the fireplace stove. An added bonus was a cooking lesson and the recipe for excellent the tart.

Tomorrow I walk half stage while others walk the full stage.  I will be breaking the cycle of these lovely people, a hard task to do.  On the Cammino, new friends fill the void.  It’s a growing proposition.

Hot chocolate break. The drink was so thick and rich it tasted like liquid Pot Au Chocolate. The cafe had a wonderful collection of expresso pots. Italian have such a sense of design.
