Corpus Christi – June 8, 2023

  • Portuguese Central Camino: Day 9 / Rates to Barcelos
  • Distance: 16.6 miles / Total 107.5 miles
  • Ascent: 568’ / Descent: 635’
  • Time: 5 hours 15 minutes
  • Weather: 60 – 70 degrees / overcast. Thunderstorms with driving rain. (Poncho no too hot with the wind, no rain pants, soaked shoes)

Seven Rates communities celebrate Corpus Christi by creating flower paths on all streets leading to the church. Corpus Christi commemorates the Last Supper.

Sand paths from the previous night. I thought the streets were in the process of being repaired.

  1. How delightful to come upon a new treat. A path of flowers can’t be beat! Met a friend of yours today in the hot tub. Her name is Erin and you taught with her at Clark. Small world.

  3. Dear Linda, Was there a wedding? Wondering about the flower paths to the church. I like the contemporary with the “clean lines”! Sincerely, Bill

    1. Not a wedding. It was the celebration of Corpse Christi, the Last Dinner. Another church had children’s First Communion on this sacred day. Yeap, I like the clean lines of modern architecture too. ~linda

  4. How lucky you were to see the flower paths. Are they only decorative or do people walk on the paths as part of a ceremony?

  5. I hope you feet were okay with the wet shoes and that you had the time to dry them out before the next day.

    1. Yesterday I arrived in wet shoes and today I departed in wet shoes. Not comfortable but not irritating. With luck they will dry today. Rain is still in forecast for coming days. ~linda
