Hi Linda,
Thanks for your words on the 10 miler; made me feel better about my race! I am spending the day in recovery, it really took a lot out of me! I was surprised to see the snow in the shade of the Japanese garden! Their mixture of nature with architecture is so restful, and to me distinguishes them from Chinese design where I have not seen the incorporation with nature.
Sincerely,
Bill
Depending how long you will stay in KOYASAN. The Ekoin temple does a wonderful night tour of the Okunoin https://www.ekoin.jp/en/experience/ I really enjoyed it. I found out during the tour you can attend the early morning service at the Kobo Daishi’s mausoleum. They have a ceremony where they serve Kobo Daishi breakfast. The monks invited us to join in the service. It was a very moving experience for me.

You’ve earned a day of rest for each mile raced. Treat yourself to down time. You are most astute in your architecture observations. ~linda

How true. I feel like I have only peeled the first layer of a culture infinitely deep. ~linda
