Country stores fascinate me. This hamlet consists of two country stores each with an attached bar, albergue, and hotel. The stores have everything you could possibly imagine like replacement tines for pitch-forks, boots, clothes pins, buckets, Frangelico liquor, fresh fruit and vegetables. All this in a space smaller than an average living room. Such was it before the generation of Box Stores.

Oops. A gentle slip landed me in the mud. Criterion for the next albergue was washer and drier. We happily discovered the option of a room for two rather than the standard dormitory room for the coming two weeks.

Solphie and I begin our walk. (Sophie requests not to be photographed.) Our choice for today’s distance is 16 beds available in 18 miles. If we go slowly and enjoy the day with a picnic lunch, we will loose out on a bed and have to walk 4 more miles. I don’t like the arrangement; but, there is no choice. We walk fast with no breaks. I’m anxious and my feet rebel. Tomorrow’s is a more generous day with more beds.
