Santa Croce ~ October 10, 2015

  • October 10, 2015
  • Day 33
  • Firenze
  • 70-78 degrees drizzled all day

The Basilica di Santa Croce is one of the principal churches of Florence. The austere interior, stupendous in size, creates a calming effect. The wooden ceiling with elegant simplicity seems to magnify the height of the church.  It contains the tombs of Michalangelo, Dante, Galileo, Nd Machiavelli.

Jumbo-Tron ~ October 4, 2015

  • October 4, 2015
  • Day 27
  • Assisi
  • 9 miles
  • 55 – 75 degrees

The anniversary of Saint Frances’ death is a huge religious and civil affair. The historic district is filled with priests and nuns. Military guards are posted at every corner. I stood with the “common folk’ in front of the Basilica viewing the mass on a “Jumbo-Tron” screen while religious and civil heads of state filled the basilica.
