The second day of solo walking had its challenge. The final junction had two unlabeled  variants and I chose wrong.  I over shot my destination. After telephoning the host, he gracious picked me up in his car.  Upon arriving at his Agriturismo, he presented me with apples, figs and mellon from his property.  Food straight from the garden to the table.  Breath taking scenery of a valley and mountains.

Breakfast at Parador ~ Day 80 ~ June 25, 2014

Santiago Parador offers complementary breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the first ten pilgrims. By chance, I was at the right place at the right time.

We were whisked through the reception area to the kitchen where waiters and cooks ignored us.  Curtly we were finally given trays of coffee and burned breakfast pastries to be taken to a “Pilgrim” dining room far removed from the Parador guests and working staff.  The arrangement lacked dignity.

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

One of the oldest monastery in the western world is the Benedictine Monasterio de Samos. A good portion of the monastery has been rebuilt since a fire in the 1950’s.

Toast tasted a bit better sitting across from the monastery.

In passing, I walked by countless family garden plots and rip cherry trees. The cherries are refreshing, sweet and juicy. For the past two weeks, enterprising individuals have been along the way selling cherries wrapped in newspaper cones.

A large percent of the church steeples are homes to storks. Smaller birds fashion their nest in the lower portion of the stork’s nest.
