Tomato Fields – Sept. 17, 2022

  • Portuguese Camino: Day 04 / Azambuja to Santarém
  • Distance: 21.8 miles / Total 60.8 miles
  • Time: 11 hours 30 minutes Ascent: ?’/ Decent: ?’
  • Weather: 90 degrees / sunny

Tomatoes blanket the ground like endless fields of Easter eggs. The past days of industrial complexes are pleasantly replaced by agriculture.

Carpet of tomatoes.
Fields of tomatoes.
Tomato vines grew resting on them ground. Imagine not staking tomatoes.

  1. You have the best eye for pictures,Linda! I’ve never seen anything like that field of tomatoes! Astounding! And today you walked for 11.5 hours, almost 22 miles, in 90 degree heat??? You’re amazing! As always, I look forward to your posts every day.

Thinking of you! Buen Camino and love, Jo

    1. Today’s walk was the limit. No time to see the charm of the night’s town. As expected, guide book listed cafés are not always open. Unfortunately the last two we were expecting were closed. Fuel is absolute. Two breakfast pastries and a bag of peanuts doesn’t cut it. Thanks for your kind words. ~linda
